Therapeutic Style & EMDR
Therapeutic Style
At the heart of it all, Dr. McGregor aligns with theoretical orientations that prioritize connection, relationships, and emotional health (e.g. Intersubjectivity Theory & Interpersonal Process Theory.) She uses an integrative and collaborative approach in her practice, which pulls from various therapeutic modalities (e.g. Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, etc.)
EMDR
Dr. McGregor was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) by the EMDR InstituteTM, which was founded by EMDR’s original developer, Dr. Francine Shapiro.
This is a structured therapy that was originally designed to help patients heal traumatic memories. Over time, it has developed into an effective method for treating a wide range of issues.
It is important to know that not every patient is a candidate to engage in EMDR, and that is okay. Dr. McGregor will assess and advise as to whether EMDR is an appropriate treatment modality to incorporate into your on-going psychotherapy treatment or not.
